Create a Custom Field

Create custom fields to use in reports to add fields that are not available in the data source. Custom fields are available in the Fields & Filters step. For a list of simple formulas, see Expression Editor.

  1. Click Create Custom Field. The Create Custom Field dialog box displays.

  2. In the Custom Field Name box, type a name for your custom field.

  3. Click the Format dropdown and select the format in which your custom field will be:

    • Date/Time: Select one of the following:

      • Date: Calculate the difference between two dates or add/subtract a number of days to or from a date.

      • Time: Track time unbound to a date. This format is useful for time management and project management.

      • Time Lapse: Calculate time duration.

    • Text: Text functions can be used in several ways. They can return the number of characters in text strings, remove extra characters, return exact position within a string, even combine text from other cells.

    • Number: Select one of the following:

      • Integer: Whole-valued positive or negative numbers without a decimal. For example: 2,670,921

      • Decimal (1 d.p - 6 d.p): Positive or negative numbers with the selected decimal. For example:

        • Decimal 1 d.p: 2,670,920.7

        • Decimal 6 d.p: 2,670,920.720000

      • Money (0 d.p - 6 d.p): Positive or negative numbers with the dollar sign ($) and the selected decimal. For example:

        • Money 0 d.p: $ 2,670,921

        • Money 6 d.p: $ 2,670,920.720000

      • Percent (0 d.p - 6 d.p): Positive or negative numbers with the percentage symbol (%) and the selected decimal. For example:

        • Percent 0 d.p: 2,670,921 %

        • Percent 6 d.p: 2,670,920.720000 %

  4. Click in the box below and create an expression.

    Note: If your equation contains text, use single quotes.

  5. Optional: Check the Create Another check box to create another custom field after you save this one. After you click Save Custom Field, a blank Create Custom Field dialog box displays.

  6. Click Save Custom Field.
