Customizing the Top Line Guidelines
You can create a unique top line for each Telco connector in your messaging environment.
Tip: After you customize the contents of the top line, consider whether you need to modify the width of the top line.
Follow these syntax rules when building the top line format.
-
Use a caret (^) to denote the beginning and end of each top line variable in the top line data string. For example: ^DATE^
-
Use a caret (^) to denote the beginning and end of each cover page variable in the top line data string. Cover page variables like %RECIP_NAME% should be entered as ^RECIP_NAME^ when they are used in the top line data string.
-
Use a plus sign (+) to denote a fixed space in the top line data string. A fixed space occupies the width of one character. Use consecutive plus signs to create larger spaces. For example, if you want to display the date and time with exactly one character space separating them, then you would use ^DATE^+^TIME^ in your top line data string.
-
Enter a space using the spacebar in the top line data string to create a space that is adjusted automatically based on the width of the top line. For example, if you want to display the date and time with adjusted spacing between them, you would use ^DATE^ ^TIME^ in your top line data string.
-
Enter additional text that you want to appear as static information in the top line. For example, if you want to label the recipient name in the top line, you might use To: ^RECIP_NAME^ in your top line data string.
Using top line variables example
You can build the top line data string using any combination of top line variables, cover page variables, and static text.
Before you build the top line format, consider the needs of your company. For example, senders of faxes within your company, such as customer service representatives and claims handlers, may not want their full names transmitted to fax recipients.
In this case, you can create a top line that displays the sender's job title.
^DATE^+^TIME^ To:+^RECIPIENT^ From:+^SENDER_TITLE^,+
When you create a fax, the top line may look similar to:
07/02/2002 03:52:24 PM To: Michelle Andrews From: Claims Processing Personnel,
Tip: You can modify the format of the date and time in the top line by modifying the server system's regional date and time settings. Refer to your Windows documentation for more information.
Using cover page variables in the top line example
The following top line includes cover page variables.
^DATE^+^TIME^ To:+^RECIP_BUSINESS_NAME^ ^RECIP_BUSINESS_FAX_PHONE^ From:+
When you create a fax, the top line may look similar to:
07/02/2002 03:52:24 PM To: ABC Company 603-555-1234 From:
