About IPP/IPPS Printing
The Print connector supports IPP and IPPS printing and can send jobs to printers that use these protocols. Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) is a standard Internet protocol for communication between client devices like computers, mobile phones, tablets, printers and more. It allows clients to submit single or multiple print jobs to a printer or print server and perform the following tasks.
-
Query the status of a printer
-
Obtain print job(s)
-
Cancel individual print jobs
In addition, IPP over HTTPS known as IPPS ensures print traffic to a printer or print server is encrypted.

Requirements and Limitations
-
The Internet Printing Client must be enabled on the AccuRoute Server and any remote connectors. Administrators must enable the appropriate Windows Server roles services and install the Windows Print Server using the Windows Server Manager application. The role services options may appear as Internet Printing or Internet Printing Client based on the Windows OS you use.
-
The printer must be a network printer that supports IPP/IPPS communication.
-
IPPS requires a valid security certificate to be installed on the printer. See printer documentation for more information.
-
IPP/IPPS is qualified to work with standalone network printers only and not printers published by a print server.
-
IPP/IPPS printers can only use IP addresses. Server or Domain names cannot be used in the URL.
-
IPP/IPPS printers must be configured to use “Anonymous Account” access. See printer documentation for more information.
-
The Print connector checks the status of jobs sent to IPP/IPPS printers on a limited basis. The jobs captured and sent via the Print connector are considered successful; however, if something wrong occurred with the printing the jobs may not be sent to the Fail queue.
Setting up IPP/IPPS printing
The IPP/IPPS Print connector by default is part of the AccuRoute Server installation. Administrators must install the Internet Printing Client on the AccuRoute server and ensure the printer(s) is able to communicate via IPP/IPPS. No additional configuration in the Server Administrator is required.
