About Area Code Rules
You can create Area Code rules for the dialing rules associated with the Telco connector. The following information must be specified in the area code rule.
- Select or create a dialing rule if one does not exist.
- Specify the area code.
- Specify the prefix parameters.
- Specify the action parameters.
In addition, you can organize, view, modify, and delete area code rules, if necessary.
You can create an area code rule by using the Server Administrator > Connectors node.
To create an area code rule

Start the Server Administrator.

Expand the Server Administrator tree.

Double-click Connectors. The connectors are listed in the details pane.

Double-click TelcoConnector to open the Properties dialog box.

Click Dialing Rules > New to open the Dialing Rule Properties dialog box.
Note: If you have already created a dialing rule, skip this step. Double-click on the dialing rule and go to step 7.

Configure the dialing rule as necessary. For instructions, see Creating a dialing rule.

Click Area Code Rules > New. The Area Code Properties dialog box appears.

In the Calling area code box, enter the area code for which you are creating this rule.

In the And the prefix to dial is section, choose from the following:

Any - Select this option if all phone number prefixes (also known as exchanges) in the area code require the same dialing rule.

One of the following - Select this option if there are other phone number prefixes that require different dialing rules than other prefixes within the specified area code. If you select this option, click Add to add the prefixes to the list.
You can add multiple prefixes at the same time by typing each prefix separated by a space. For example: 719 562 987 244

In the Then section, configure the action for this area code rule. You can select one or both of the following options.

Dial - Select if the fax board should dial a number before dialing the fax number. The default is 1. If the number to dial differs from the default, type it in the box.

Include area code - Select if the fax board should dial the area code when dialing the fax number.

Click OK and then OK again to go back to the Properties dialog box.
You can organize the area code rules in the order you want the Telco connector to apply them to outbound faxes. If an outbound fax does not match the first rule in the list, the Telco connector tests the fax against the second rule, and so on, until the Telco connector matches the outbound fax to a rule in the list.
Tip: You should organize the area code rules from specific to general. Using this method of organizing area code rules, the Telco connector matches outbound faxes to specific rules first, and then matches other outbound faxes to more general rules near the middle or bottom of the list.
To organize area code rules

Start the Server Administrator.

Expand the Server Administrator tree.

Double-click Connectors. The connectors are listed in the details pane.

Double-click Telco Connector to open the Properties dialog box.

Click Dialing Rules to open the Dialing Rules dialog box.

Select a dialing rule and click Properties to open the Dialing Rule Properties dialog box.

Click Area Code Rules.

Select each area code rule and click the up or down arrow buttons to move it into the correct order.

Click OKtwice to go back to the Telco Properties dialog box.
You can view an area code rule by using the Server Administrator > Connectors node.
To view an area code rule

Start the Server Administrator.

Expand the Server Administrator tree.

Double-click Connectors. The connectors are listed in the details pane.

Double-click Telco Connector to open the Properties dialog box.

In the Dialing Rules section, select the dialing rule you want to view.

Click Properties. The Dialing Rule Properties dialog box appears.

Click Area Code Rules.

View the area code rule configuration.

When you have finished viewing, click OK.
You can modify an area code rule by using the Server Administrator > Connectors node.
To modify an area code rule

Start the Server Administrator.

Expand the Server Administrator tree.

Double-click Connectors. The connectors are listed in the details pane.

Double-click Telco Connector to open the Properties dialog box.

In the Dialing Rules section, select the dialing rule you want to modify.

Click Properties. The Dialing Rule Properties dialog box appears.

Click Area Code Rules.

Modify any of the following properties using the information in Creating an area code rule.

Click OK to save your changes.
You can delete an area code rule by using the Server Administrator > Connectors node.
To delete an area code rule

Start the Server Administrator.

Expand the Server Administrator tree.

Double-click Connectors. The connectors are listed in the details pane.

Double-click Telco Connector to open the Properties dialog box.

In the Dialing Rules section, select the dialing rule you want to view.

Click Properties. The Dialing Rule Properties dialog box appears.

Click Area Code Rules.

Select the rule you want to delete and click Delete.

You are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the rule. Click Yes. The rule is deleted and from the Area Code Rules section.
