In addition, Fax users can submit outbound messages to the server using their email client application. (The users can attach a control file to the email message. The server uses the instructions in the control file to process the message and deliver it to its final destination.)
Note: Users must send their message using a qualified SMTP address format. For instructions, see SMTP connector one-off address format.
The SMTP connector also can be configured for DID lookups. This setting identifies information about the intended recipient for inbound faxes and retrieves and applies sender information on a cover page for an outbound message.
SMTP connector requirements
You must have the following installed and configured before you can install the SMTP connector.

Upland AccuRoute Server with all the required configurations

SMTP server (required if the SMTP connector is configured to use SMTP Relay Server)

Internet Information Services (IIS) (required if the SMTP connector is configured to use IIS/SMTP Pickup Directory)

Virtual SMTP server properties configured with the address of the SMTP server. For instructions, see Configuring virtual SMTP server properties. (required if the SMTP connector is configured to use IIS/SMTP Pickup Directory)
Note: A IIS requirement change has been made for Administrators who are moving away from the traditional IIS/SMTP configuration. Administrators can specify the use of a SMTP Relay Server as a result of Microsoft limiting the use of IIS. See Setting the SMTP Relay Server for more information.
Accessing the SMTP connector
You can access the SMTP connector by using the Server Administrator > Connectors node.
To access the SMTP connector

Start the Server Administrator.

Expand the Server Administrator tree.

Select Connectors. The Connectors details pane lists the connectors that are licensed with your server.

Double click the SMTP connector to view and edit its properties, if necessary.

In the Server Administrator, select Connectors.

Select SMTP on the Server in the Connectors details pane. The SMTP on the Server Properties dialog box appears.

Select the Send Via tab.

Select SMTP Relay Server.

Specify the DNS or IP address parameter in the DNS or IP Address box.

Use the default TCP/IP Port parameter or specify a different one in the TCP/IP Port # box.

Select OK on the SMTP on the Server Properties dialog box.
