Configuring SMS Event Match Filters
All SMS Event Match Filters use the same configuration:
- Negate Rule: negate the filter logic
- Object Type: select the object to be filtered on
- Launch Start Date: start date to check for launches
- Launch End Date: end date for any launch occurrences
- Event Start Date: start date to check for events
- Event End Date: end date for any event occurrences
Example Filter
This tutorial will go through the process of creating a simple "Contact has been sent SMS" fitler.
Step 1: Select Event Rule Type
Once SMS Event Match has been selected, choose the Message Sent rule type.
Step 2: Select Object
Click "Select Object". A pop-up will appear.
Choose what account object you want to use on the filter, e.g. select a specific launch by opening the object tree and selecting a launch.
Step 3: Set Event Dates
Next, choose the time period the filter should check in.
The example below asks the filter to check for events that happened in the last month. * Event Start: Today's date—1 month * Event Start: Today's date
Data Retention
If you select dates older than the retention period on your account a pop-up will appear to inform you of this. Refer to the Data Retention topic for more information.
We recommend setting dates on your filters, so as to avoid looking for data that is no longer accessible to your account.
Step 4: Save and Finish
Click "Ok".
Your filter should now be highlighted blue.
Click Save, and your filter is ready to apply to your contacts.
Understanding Date Options
There are two different ways to specify a date, depending on the purpose of the filter; 'Fixed Date' or '"Today's" Date', which you can select using the drop-down menu.
- Fixed Date: requires the exact date to be entered in YYYY-MM-DD format
- "Today's" Date: allows you to build rules with dates relative to the date that you are running the filter. This means the filter count may vary, according to the dates contained within the data.
- 'Today plus' refer to dates after "Today's Date"
- 'Today minus' refer to dates before "Today's Date"
'Today plus...' Example
The rule in this example will match email contacts one day before their birthday. This rule will be an Anniversary rule, and the date modification will need to be set to '"Today's" date' and 'Today plus 1 day'.
If "today" is the 16th, then the 16th plus one day will be the 17th. Contacts with birthdays recorded in the data as the 17th would receive the campaign the day before their birthday.
Remember to click the 'Save Filter' button in the bottom left hand corner, or the filter will not be saved if you navigate away from the Campaign Data page.
'Today minus...' Example
The rule in this example will match email contacts three days after their subscription has expired. This rule will be a 'Date is equal to' rule, with the date modification set to '"Today's" date' and 'Today minus 3 days'.
If "today" is the 16th, then the 16th minus three days will be the 13th. Contacts whose subscription expiry is recorded in the data as the 13th would receive the campaign three days after their subscription has expired.
Remember to click the 'Save Filter' button in the bottom left hand corner, or the filter will not be saved if you navigate away from the Campaign Data page.
