What is a Source System?

About Source Systems

Your Source System is the repository where your data is stored (the data you want indexed).

This repository can be managed by any number of applications, including but not limited to:

  • SharePoint O365
  • SharePoint 2013/16/19
  • Documentum
  • File Share
  • OpenText
  • Lotus Notes
  • etc.
Database Source: Your Source System repository can also be a database such as SQL or Oracle.

Source System's Role in Indexing Your Data

For the following bullet points, see the graphic below:

  • Your documents, images and other items are stored in a Source System

  • These items flow through the Connector Web Service and into a specific search index.

  • This search index is managed by an instance of a search application such as Elasticsearch.
