About the Practical Law Connector
The BA Insight Practical Law connector is a web application-type connector.
Features
The BA Insight Practical Law connector crawls the content contained in the documents in Practical Law product of Thomson Reuters and indexes the content for search engines such as SharePoint Online, Elastic Search, and others.
- The connector is based on the official Thomson Reuters Practical Law API.
- Perform searches against the Practical Law database of legal know-how, directly within the SmartHub interface, eliminating the need to navigate to Practical Law directly.
- Receive results from any of the 80+ content sources accessible using BA Insight Connectors or Federated Connectors in a single set of interleaved search results.
- Filter the Practical Law results, allowing users to specifically define the information that they wish to see.
- Preview results from Practical Law and other sources to quickly determine the relevance of individual search results.
- Click on a result to be taken directly to the underlying research in any of the 17+ practice areas covered by Practical Law.
Security
The connector honors the security of the source system Your Source System is the repository where your data is stored (data to be indexed). Limitations
To ensure you have the latest content, Thomson Reuters recommends you index new or changed content on the Practical Law web sites routinely (once per week, at minimum).

Thomson Reuters limits the availability of the Practical Law online source system with regard to crawling.
Restrictions to crawl types and times:
- After the initial (full) crawl has been performed, further crawls should be limited to updates only (incremental crawls Scanning and capturing only new data from all of your content sources. This data did not exist when the last crawl was run.) and performed no more frequently than daily, between the hours of 23:00 and 06:00 UK (GMT) time during business days. (Note: UK summer time is GMT+1).
- Full crawls are permitted only on weekends (Sat-Sun), at any time
- Rendering the full text within a client’s interface is not permitted
