Set Access and User Authentication

SmartHub supports multiple access and authentication methods to control who can sign in and how they prove their identity when accessing their SmartHub search experience. Choosing the right authentication method determines the level of security, integration with your identity systems, and user experience for your organization.

Authentication ensures that only authorized users can see search results and interact with the search interface. Additionally, you can integrate with your identity systems and ensure security policies and access controls are consistently enforced. SmartHub offers a range of supported authentication methods to meet diverse security, governance, and integration requirements.

Supported Authentication options

SmartHub supports several types of authentication, each suited for different environments and requirements:

  • Azure Active Directory Authentication: Integrates SmartHub with Azure AD so users authenticate using their organizational accounts and tokens issued by Azure.

  • Federated Authentication: Allows SmartHub to trust external identity providers (such as Okta or ADFS) using OAuth‑compliant tokens.

  • Windows Authentication: Uses native Windows credentials and protocols for environments where users sign in using domain accounts.

  • None (No Authentication): No access restrictions. This is useful for non‑production or public search portals, but not recommended for secure environments.

Selecting Authentication

There are 4 different types of authentication available in SmartHub, including None (No Authentication).

Note: No Authentication is not recommended for security reasons.
