Using Field Lists

Field Lists are used to display data and, most importantly, to determine which fields are exported from Campaigns.

To Create a New Field List:

  1. From the Analysis Menu choose New Field List.

  2. Browse through the Database tables and fields.

  3. Drag a field of choice to the upper pane.

  4. Continue to add fields as required.

    • To Re-order Fields, select the field to re-order, drag it up or down to change its position. If you change the order you must click the Refresh button to update the display.

    • To Remove Fields, right-click on the field and select Remove Field. It is not possible to remove more than one field at a time.

  5. Click the Save As icon from the Action Menu.

  6. Save your Field List with a name appropriate to your naming convention.

Note: The Display table will be saved also. The Field List must be re-saved if the display table is changed.

  7. Choose a location to save the Field List. This is Analysis by default, but it is possible to use an alternative folder by selecting it from the Location list menu. Your Field List will now be available in the Communication drop-down.

A Field List may be renamed, deleted or copied by selecting it from the Analysis menu. Right-click on the Field List and select the option required from the Context Menu. You can also set a field list to be the default list for a table in the settings menu.

Inline Expressions

The addition of Inline Expressions to Field Lists eliminates the building of many additional expressions that are only used for a single output purpose (e.g. exporting priority matrix and object values into campaign outputs), simplifying the process of constructing Field Lists by removing the need to first create an Expression within the database.

Modifying Field Display Names

If you need to export a file containing names that match your destination, for example Email-Address in your data needs to become Email for use in a list that is to be uploaded into an ESP such as MailChimp that expects the field to be named Email, they can be renamed.

To relabel a field name for output, double-click on the field and enter the new name required.

  • Fields may be renamed differently within any number of Field Lists, so be aware of the mapping used

  • Renaming does not affect the source field

  • The new name is used when outputting data only, there is no reference back to the source field that has been renamed in any output files

Masking sensitive fields

For GDPR purposes or to protect sensitive data from users, fields that are masked can be used in Field Lists but will appear empty. In the screen grab shown above, the Name First field has been masked.

This is configured by an administrator and will affect all users when viewing the data within the BlueVenn user interface.

Custom Field Formats

When using date-based fields within a field template, there may be occasions when you need to re-format the data to suit a specific data requirement. This is also useful for translating UK/US date formats, where the software currently defaults to UK (ddMMyyyy).

To create custom field templates, Field Lists have a new column for formatting data:

Within the "Format" column, you can insert date formats, to customise how your date field will display. To replicate the default view as shown above, the format is "d MMM yyyy".

These dates can be broken up with any combination of characters, eg "- / : ; ," are all supported, as shown above separating the yyyy, MM and dd with a hyphen between each, e.g. "yyyy-MM-dd HH:MM:ss" would return "2018-03-30 13:20:49"

Below is the formatting options, to customise how your data is displayed.

Note: The format is case sensitive.
