Tagged PDF Limitations

This is and experimental feature at this stage. Not every Tagged PDF file is expected to work.

The following is a list of Known Issues at time of release:

• While all files of the PDF/UA Reference Suite 1.1 can be processed and most will keep all of the Tagged PDF data (the output may no longer by PDF/UA compliant), a few files will loose part of the logical structure.
  In this case the problems are with files that contain re-usable content, technically referred to as “Form XObjects”, that also have tagged content.

• Keep Tagged PDF does not work when the output preset also has Separations enabled. Such as:

  • Splitting at a fixed number of sheets will fail with an error.

  • Splitting at document set, job segment, or job boundaries level will produce PDF with problems in the tag structure. While they might look okay, they are not correctly Tagged PDF.

  • Splitting at document boundaries may produce correct Tagged PDF, but this can also depend on how document boundaries were done on the input file(s).

• Impositioning will produce correct PDF output, but the output will not be Tagged PDF.

• Adding content during output creation will still produce Tagged PDF output, but the additional content will not be tagged.

These issues will be addressed in future releases, as the Tagged PDF feature is improved.
