About OL Remote Print 3.0.0

OL Remote Print is an IP printing solution that allows jobs produced by any Windows application to be printed remotely to any OLRP Server. Jobs can be configured to print silently, as they would with any standard printer, or to display a fully configurable web page where users may review, configure, or cancel the job before releasing it for printing.

OLRP is an evolution of the OL Connect Send (OLCS) product and shares the same basic functionality. However, where OLCS required OL Connect Workflow to be installed and configured, OLRP is a stand-alone system that can be installed, configured, and managed independently from all other OL products. Integration with other OL products provides additional capabilities. The OLRP Server requires a database connection. The MariaDB in OL Connect can provide this, or a MySQL or MSSQL database can be used.

OLRP components

The OLRP solution has two components.

The OLRP Server receives print jobs and manages users, licenses, and API keys. Multiple OLRP servers can be configured to work together for load-balancing purposes. The OLRP Server includes a browser-based management console for easy configuration and access to information about print jobs.

The OLRP Client is a printer driver and a notification application. You can install it on any Windows system to send print jobs to the OLRP Server. It can be mass installed without needing in-person or remote access to user computers. On each system where it is installed, multiple printers using this driver can be configured to trigger different printing processes.

OLRP features

  • Stand-alone server
The server component of OLRP is fully independent and does not require other Upland Objectif Lune components to be present on the system.

  • Full REST-like API
All functionality is available through API calls, allowing for easy integration into local or remote systems. The API provides access to print jobs, account information, and API key management.

  • Scalability
Each OLRP server can work independently or in collaboration with other OLRP servers. This allows multiple servers to handle large volumes of incoming print jobs while centralizing the processing of those jobs.

  • Cloud-based licensing
User-based and click-based licenses are available, both managed from the cloud. This allows users to add or renew licensing packages without having to make any changes to the OLRP servers.

  • Security
All print jobs sent to the server are controlled via API keys. Allowing or revoking access to the server is therefore as simple as adding or disabling API keys.

  • Interactivity
The OLRP client can be configured to display a web-based response upon submitting jobs, allowing for confirmation or approval workflows to be triggered for some or all jobs.

OLRP Advantages

  • Minimal training
The system allows employees to continue using familiar tools like MS Word, which are commonly part of their daily tasks. Because Office tools are already well-known, the learning curve is minimal, enabling a smooth transition with little need for extensive training.

This ease of use helps employees quickly adapt to an OLRP-based solution, boosting productivity without disrupting their workflow.

  • Flexibility in Solution Customizations
The custom web page can be fully designed and implemented by partners and customers using their preferred web framework and server, such as React, Angular, or Svelte, running on IIS, Apache, or Nginx.

The custom web page can be easily integrated with tools like WordPress, OL Connect-based web pages, or standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The latter two options are typically supported and served by OL Connect automation tools, such as Node.js-based OL Connect Automate.

This flexibility enables the system to meet a wide variety of use cases and business needs.

  • Integrations
Integration can occur at various stages of the solution. Web front ends can connect with backend systems to retrieve and store information. OL Connect automation tools offer a broad range of connectors to integrate with databases, archival solutions, and REST APIs.

  • Document Composition and Output
Leverage the powerful features of OL Connect to merge incoming jobs with data, generating fully personalized documents enriched with stationery backgrounds, barcodes, and additional documents like brochures. OL Connect's output capabilities enable the commingling of jobs, sorting, grouping, and preparation of documents for archival storage.
