A data token is a text entry on the slide that links to data in PowerSteering. For example, the data token {Custom1.WorkID} will produce the project ID of a work item on the slide when the PowerPoint template is used. Each data token must be in its own text placeholder or cell of a table on the PowerPoint slide.
The list of available tokens is below. If a token requires an explicit object name, the object is enclosed in $. For example, the token {Custom1.WorkGateStatus[$GATE_NAME$]} should be entered in the PowerPoint template file with an explicit gate name. The finished token might be {Custom1.WorkGateStatus[Define]}, which would show the status of the Define gate.

| {Custom1.WorkMeasure["Measure name",measure parameter]} |
The value of the work item's Measure at a given point in time. The time is outlined by the parameter. Available parameters include:
- Specific date formatted yyyy-mm-dd. For example, 2023-06-14 will be replaced by the Measure value on June 14th, 2023. If no value was calculated on that date, the value that was calculated most recently before it will be displayed.
-
MostRecent: This will provide the most recently calculated value (also known as the current value).
-
Yesterday: This will proved the value calculated yesterday. If no value was calculated yesterday, the value that was calculated most recently before it will be displayed.
-
StartOfWeek: This will provide the value calculated on the first day of the current week. If no value was calculated on that date, the value that was calculated most recently before it will be displayed.
-
StartOfMonth: This will provide the value calculated on the first day of the current month. If no value was calculated on that date, the value that was calculated most recently before it will be displayed.
-

-

Note: The quotation marks on either side of the Measure name must be straight quotes , not smart quotes . Although the quotation mark key on standard keyboards inserts straight quotes, PowerPoint is often configured to automatically transform straight quotes into smart quotes by default. To disable this in PowerPoint, navigate to File → Options → Proofing → AutoCorrect Options → AutoFormat As You Type. From here, ensure that '"Straight quotes" with "smart quotes"' is deselected:

{Custom1.WorkMeasure["Customer Satisfaction Score",MostRecent]} |
| {Custom1.WorkMetric["Metric Template name","Metric view name","Metric line item name","Metric beneficiary name",Metric period/date paremeter]} |
This will capture a specific Metric value from one of the work item's attached Metrics.
The following parameters are not always required, depending on the Metric Template used:
-
Metric view name (only required if the Metric uses views)
-
Metric beneficiary name (only required if the beneficiary value is desired. If no beneficiary name is included, the non-beneficiary line item value will be displayed)
-
Metric period/date (only required if the Metric Template uses periods)
Whenever the Metric view name or Metric beneficiary name is not included in the data token, empty quotes ("") should be put in their place (except for the Metric period/date, which does not use quotation marks in the first place).
The Metric period/date parameter can be represented by a period from the Metric Template or a specific date parameter. Metric periods must include both the period name and the corresponding year. For example, take the Metric Template below:
To display the value from June of 2023, both the period and the year must be included exactly as they are displayed on the Metric. The period must come before the year. Therefore, Jun 2023 would be included in the data token.
Date parameters, on the other hand, will provide values that are not directly based on Metric periods. Users can insert the following parameters in the data token to receive the corresponding results:
-
Specific date formatted yyyy-mm-dd. For example, 2023-06-14 will be replaced by the Metric value on June 14th, 2023.
-
GrandTotal: This will return the sum of the line item or beneficiary values across all periods.
-
CurrentPeriod: This will return the current value of the line item or beneficiary based on today's date.
-
CurrentQuarter: This will return the sum of the line item or beneficiary values across the current financial quarter.
-
CurrentYear: This will return the sum of the line item or beneficiary values across the current calendar year.
-
PreviousPeriod: This will return the previous value of the line item or beneficiary based on today's date.
-
PreviousQuarter: This will return the sum of the values of the line items or beneficiaries across the previous financial quarter.
-
PreviousYear: This will return the sum of the values of the line items or beneficiaries across the previous calendar year.
-
NextPeriod: This will return the next value of the line item or beneficiary based on today's date.
-
NextQuarter: This will return the sum of the values of the line items or beneficiaries across the next financial quarter.
-
NextYear: This will return the sum of the values of the line items or beneficiaries across the next calendar year.

{Custom1.WorkMetric["Expenses","Actual","Software","",CurrentPeriod]} |
|
{Custom1.WorkCost["Cost type",Cost date/relative date range]}
|
This will capture a specific cost on the work item. The Cost type parameter must be used to specify which type of cost is being captured. Users can insert the following into the data token in the place of Cost type:
Actual: The Actual cost of the specific work item. Actual total: The total of the Actual costs of the specific work item as well as its Descendants. Estimated: The Estimated cost of the specific work item. Estimated total: The total of the Estimated costs of the specific work item as well as its Descendants. Budget: The Budget cost of the work item. Baseline Budget: The Baseline Budget of the work item.
On the other hand, the Cost date/relative date range parameter must specify the date(s) of the cost. Note: The second parameter is not required for Budget or Baseline Budget cost types. Users can insert the following into the data token in the place of Cost date/relative date range: yyyy-mm-dd: This will return the cost amount on a specific date. Replace the letters with the year, month, and day of your preferred date (i.e. 2024-03-26). yyyy-mm-dd, yyyy-mm-dd: For Estimated costs, this will return all of the costs between the date range (i.e. 2024-01-01, 2024-03-26). PreviousYear: The total cost of the previous calendar year. CurrentYear: The total cost of the current calendar year. NextYear: The total cost of the next calendar year. PreviousQuarter: The total cost of the previous financial quarter. CurrentQuarter: The total cost of the current financial quarter. NextQuarter: The total cost of the next financial quarter. PreviousMonth: The total cost of the previous month. CurrentMonth: The total cost of the current month. NextMonth: The total cost of the next month.
