Resource Planning Overview

The following steps must be taken before Resource Planning can be used in PowerSteering:

  • Determine Resource Planning / Project Schedule Link: By default, resource allocations are automatically adjusted when a project’s schedule changes. You have the option to un-link resource planning from project scheduling so that resource allocations are not automatically changed by the system. To change this behavior, please contact your PowerSteering Customer Success Manager.
  • Create Resource Planning Tags: Administrators create the tags that will be used in resource planning. Users (resources) can be grouped by several dimensions (business unit, skill, certification level, etc.), and the tags define what those groupings and the available values will be.
  • Set up Resource Planning Tags: On the Resource Planning page Administrators can select which tags to use as Resource Planning tags.
  • Define the Resource Calendar: The calendar determines the number of hours that are in each work day as well as other key, system-wide calendar characteristics. See Resource Calendars Overview.
  • User Profile Setup: In order for a user to be an effective participant in the resource planning system, their user profiles must individually set up their own calendar and tags on their User Profile. See Edit My User Profile.
