Photographing and scanning

Receipts are generally printed using low quality printers and paper, which makes them difficult to recognize. Therefore some care is needed when taking pictures of your receipts. If the condition of the source receipt or the quality of the image is very bad, some information may not be recognized.

It is also important for you to verify the Expense Entry for accuracy before submitting your Expense Report.

Photographing receipts

For best results, please make sure that:

  • The camera lens is clean.
  • The camera is focused on the receipt.
  • The receipt fits entirely within the frame in a portrait (vertical) orientation.
  • Straighten the receipt out. Place the receipt on a flat surface and do not take hand held photos.
  • Avoid perspective distortion by positioning the camera parallel to the plane of the receipt.
  • Take photos in a well-lit area. Otherwise, use the flash.
  • Avoid shadows across the receipt.
