Role Based Budgets

Role-Based Budgeting offers a flexible alternative to traditional Task-Based budgeting by allowing you to define and manage Budgets at the Role level. This approach aligns budgeting efforts with how resources are allocated across a Project, making it particularly valuable for organizations that plan financials based on roles rather than specific tasks.

With Role-Based Budgets, you can track planned costs and billing for each role involved in a project, streamlining financial oversight and improving resource planning.

This article outlines how to configure a Project for Role-Based Budgeting, explains the interface differences, and highlights important considerations to ensure successful implementation.

Prerequisites:

  1. The Budget Type must be set to Role for the Project. The default setting for the Budget Type is set at the Work System level. It can however be overridden at the Project level. To do so:
    1. Navigate to the Options tab when modifying a Project
    2. Ensure that the Budget Type is set to Role.

Select Role as the Budget Type
