Copy a document type section or component

You can copy components or sections from one document type and paste them another location in the current document type or in another document type. When you copy a section, you can also choose to copy the components in that section. The components can be synced, so that changes to one result in changes to the other component.

Copy a section or component within a document type

  1. In the document type, from navigation panel, click to highlight the element to be copied, then right-click and select Copy.
  2. Click the location in the navigation panel where you want to paste the selection, then right-click and select Paste. The Paste/Drop Options dialog displays.
  3. Select one of the following Subsection options:
    • Share Existing Components: Select if the component in the new section and the original component should be kept in sync when edits are made to either one. For example, if you share a Selection Drive Content component and choose this option, then add an additional selection item to the copied component, the same selection item will be added to the original component.
    • Create Copies: Select if you want to create a duplicate of the subsection components but not sync the copy and original. Any changes made to one component will not affect the other.
  4. Select one of the following Content options:
    • Share Existing: Select if the new section and the original component should share content that will be kept sync when edits are made to either one. This option is rarely used when copying within the same document type, because it results in duplicate content in the document.
    • Create Copies: Select if you want to create a duplicate of the subsection components but not sync the copy and original. Any changes made to one component will not affect the other.
    • None: Select if you want to use different content than what is used in the component being copied. This is most often used in the same document type when you want to add the same structure from one document type to another without content.
  5. Click Yes to complete the paste or No to cancel without pasting. The component or section is inserted into the document type with "Copy of" preceding each item's name. The first element is highlighted in the tree and its corresponding dialog displays on the right so you can edit any information.
  6. (Optional) Highlight the components or section and then click Move Up or Move Down to reorder the document.

Copy a section or component from another document type

  1. From the Navigation panel in the document type you want to copy the section or component to, click Section Tray, and then click Browse to display the Other Sections dialog.
  2. Select the check boxes next to the components to copy and then click Add. The selected components are now listed in the Section Tray.
  3. Drag and drop the components from the Selection Tray into the document type (use Ctrl or Shift keys to select multiple or a range of elements). The Paste/Drop Options dialog displays.
