Project Attribute Setup Scenarios

The project attributes such as Billable, Funded, R&D, Capitalized, and Payable can be set for the WBS objects.

Scenario 1:

Assuming that the following is created:

  • Project: ABCProject (alias ABC)
  • Work Type: Development with no attributes selected; for more information on creating work types, see Work Type Setup .

When the work type (Development) is associated to the project (ABCProject), the task ABC_Development is created with no attributes selected due to the fact that the task (ABC_Development) inherits the attributes of the work type (Development).

The time entry attributes depend on the attributes of the task associated to the time entry; for example, if a task is marked as Billable, then the time entry is marked as Billable and vice versa. If the task ABC_Development (with no attributes selected) is assigned to a user's timesheet, then all the time entries associated to this task (ABC_Development) also have no attributes selected. For more information on associating work types to projects, see Project Setup.

Note: The same rule applies for charge, product, expense and purchase/requisition entries. For a charge or expense entry to be billable, the task and the expense or charge item related to the time entry must be billable.

Scenario 2:

Assuming that all time entries for the project (ABCProject) should be billed to the client and marked as R&D, edit the ABCProject and set the following in the Project Attributes section:

  • Select the Override Billable and Billable boxes; if only the Override Billable box is selected, then the time entries are marked as Not Billable (rule applies for all the project attributes)
  • Select the Override R&D and R&D boxes

As long as the user's timesheet is assigned the task ABC_Development, when new time entries are created in the timesheet, the time entries inherit the attributes overridden at the project level (time entries are marked as Billable and R&D).

Note: All time entries created before overriding the attributes remain unchanged. The same rule applies for all expense, charge, product and purchase/requisition entries.
