Edit a data view

After you create a view, you can edit its basic information, change the view name, add, remove, or edit fields within the schema as well as apply SQL filters.

Note: Each user's profile is uniquely configured and permissioned. Your data view and options may differ slightly depending on the permissions granted.

Caution: You must have a clear understanding of the database schema to be able to manage data sources and views. Database schemas are blueprints of how the data is organized in the database. UA allows for great flexibility in managing the data sources and views but it is only recommended for users with knowledge and understanding of the database schemas and its administration.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Click Analytics Settings on the Main Menu bar and then select Data Views from the menu.
    • Click on the Icon bar. Click the Analytics Configuration drop-down arrow and then click Data Views. This option is available only to Administrators.
  2. The Data Views page displays a list of all available data views.

  3. Select the data view you want to edit.
  4. Click Edit. The Views page displays with the following main menu:
    • Save: Saves your changes.
    • Save & Add New: Saves your changes and then opens a new View page to create a new data view.
    • Copy: Copies the data view.
    • New: Creates a new data view.
    • Delete: Deletes the current data view.
    • New Search: Returns to the Data View page.
    • Return: Discards changes and returns to the Data View page.

Note: The Title, Server Name, Database Name and Schema are mandatory fields. These fields are the same across all data views within the same site. Therefore, it's recommended to take note of the Server Name, Database Name and the Object Schema.

  5. Click Save to apply your changes.
  6. Click Save & Add New to apply your changes and then create a new data view.

Note: In order for users to be able to use a data view, it must first be added to the Available Views in a Data Source. For more information, see Adding a newly created view to a data source.
