About Secure Delivery

In some industries, regulations require companies that transmit information about a client or patient to keep this information strictly confidential. For example, the HIPAA guidelines published by the US Federal Department of Health indicate that sending confidential patient medical information to a common or shared fax machine does not provide sufficient protection of the content, because unauthorized parties could potentially access this information.

When you send a fax with secure delivery, the Upland AccuRouteserver will not deliver the fax until the recipient verifies that the destination is secure. While the server holds your outbound fax until the recipient verifies that the destination is secure, it sends a different fax to the recipient that explains how the recipient can verify that the destination is secure. This fax contains an agreement between your company and the sender regarding the security of the information in your faxes. If the recipient agrees to the terms, the recipient will sign the agreement and send it back to your company via the fax address provided in the agreement.
