With traditional Filescan configured for the server, a user can copy a document and a control file to a Filescan folder. (With traditional Filescan, the user writes the control file for the document.) The Filescan connector interprets the data in the control file and makes this information available to the server. The server processes and delivers the document based on the control file data provided by the Filescan connector. This method allows a user to send a fax without using an e-mail client application.
With virtual mode Filescan configured for the server, a user can copy a document to a Filescan folder. (With virtual mode Filescan, a control file permanently resides in the Filescan folder and contains an embedded directive that applies to all documents copied to the Filescan folder.) The Filescan connector interprets the data in the control file and makes this information available to the server. The server processes and delivers the document based on the control file data provided by the Filescan connector. This automatic document routing method is an ideal solution for users who send documents to the same destination repeatedly.
With virtual mode Filescan configured for the server, a user can copy a broadcast fax to a Filescan folder. (With virtual mode Filescan, the control file for broadcast faxes permanently resides in the Filescan folder.) The Filescan connector interprets the data in the control file and makes this information available to the server. The server processes and delivers the document based on the control file data provided by the Filescan connector. This method might be a convenient solution for users who routinely send broadcast faxes.
Network scanning devices
With virtual mode Filescan configured with the server, a user can scan a document and a routing sheet on a network scanner. The network scanner saves the scanned document in the Filescan folder. (In this instance, the virtual control file for scanned documents permanently resides in the Filescan folder.) After a scanned document arrives on the server, the server routes the document to the Embedded Directive Manager component that scans the document and detects the Embedded Directive. The server processes and delivers the document based on the delivery instructions associated with the Embedded Directive. This method provides your company with a method of getting hard-copy documents from a network scanning device to your company's server.
