About Outbound Faxes Top Line (Header)
The top line is the text that appears at the top of each page in a fax. This text contains information such as the date and time of the fax transmission and the identity of the fax sender. You can customize the top line for all Telco connectors in your fax environment.
According to FCC regulations, the fax header must include the date and time of the fax transmission, as well as a name or phone number that identifies your company.
FCC rules state: “It shall be unlawful for any person within the United States to use a computer or other electronic device to send any message via a telephone facsimile machine unless such message clearly contains, in a margin at the top or bottom of each transmitted page or on the first page of the transmission, the date and time it is sent and an identification of the business, other entity, or individual sending the message and the telephone number of the sending machine or of such business, other entity, or individual. Telephone facsimile machines manufactured on and after December 20, 1992, must clearly mark such identifying information on each transmitted message.” (Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, 68.318(d)
Default top line values
By default, the top line contains the following information.
-
Date the server delivers the fax
-
Time the server delivers the fax
-
Fax sender name
-
Fax board sending channel TSI
-
Page number
Top line date and time format
The date and time format in the top line of outbound faxes is based on the Windows configuration for regional and language options.
To change the date and time format in the top line, go to the Modem Server and modify the Windows regional options for the date and time. (For more information on modifying the Windows regional and language options, consult Windows Help.) Then restart the Modem Manager service on the server.
Customizing top line content and width
For each Telco connector, you can modify/customize the contents of the top line to meet the needs of your company. Moreover, you can set the top line width to accommodate 80 characters or 132 characters. This can prevent text wrapping in the top line for longer data strings.

You can set the top line width to accommodate 80 or 132 characters.
-
80 characters - When you set the top line width to 80, the top line can accommodate 80 characters. If your top line has more than 80 characters, then the top line data will be displayed in two rows of text.
Note: When the top line width setting is 80, the characters are larger than when the top line width is set to 132.
-
132 characters - When you set the top line width to 132, the top line can accommodate 132 characters. Using 132 as the top line width setting is helpful in avoiding a top line that contains two rows of text.
Note: When the top line width setting is 132, the characters are smaller than when the top line width is set to 80.
