Create a data view

Caution: Caution: You must have a clear understanding of the database schema to be able to manage data sources and views. Database schemas are blueprints of how the data is organized in the database. Analytics allows for great flexibility in managing the data sources and views but it is only recommended for users with knowledge and understanding of the database schemas and its administration.

To create a data view:

  1. Click Analytics Settings on the Analytics Menu and then click Data View. The Data View page displays a list of all available data views.

  2. Click New View. The Create View page displays.

  3. In the Title field, type a name for the data view.

  4. In the Database Connection field, select database server name where the data is stored.

  5. In the Schema field, type the database schema if applicable.

  6. In the Select a view field, select a SQL view.

  7. Click Next and build the schema. You can do the following:

    • Click Add Row to add a field to the schema.

    • Toggle Hierarchy Settings on to add a hierarchical data filter and click Settings to configure the filter. See Configure a hierarchical data filter for more information on how to complete the Hierarchy Field Settings dialog box.

    • Click the hyperlink of the field in the SQL Column Name column to edit the field.

    • Click check box next to the field and click Hide/Unhide to hide the field.

    • Click check box next to the field and click Delete to delete the field.

    If you make any changes, click Update Schema.

  8. Optional: Click Test Performance to view performance results.

  9. Click Save.
