About Fax Connectors
HP CR provides fax capability to devices and users within an organization without the need for devices to have internal fax modems connected to analog phone lines. HP CR supports:
- Legacy network fax servers using the proprietary HP LAN fax protocol, used by the HP DSS product to interface to network fax servers
- Voice over IP (VOIP) gateways using the T.38 internet faxing standard
- Internet-based fax services using the T.37 internet faxing standard
HP LAN Fax connector
When considering how the HP LAN Fax connector works after installation, the following is the basic workflow the HP LAN Fax connector uses to send a fax out to the HP CR Server:
- A user prepares and sends a fax using a configured HP MFP device.
- The fax document is delivered from the device to the \HP\Shared\LanFax\In\ folder (a shared folder that is accessed by the device and the HP CR Server).
- The HP CR Server detects the fax, picks it up, and processes it for delivery via the Telco connector.
- After the message is processed, delivery status is sent back to the HP device.
The following is the basic workflow the HP LAN Fax connector uses to send a fax to a third party fax server:
- A user prepares and sends a fax using the User Interface or a configured HP MFP device.
- The fax document is delivered to the HP CR Server.
- The HP CR Server detects the fax and matches the routing rule to send faxes to the HP LAN Fax connector directory that is monitored by the third party fax server services for delivery.
- After the message is processed, delivery status is sent back to the sender.
Telco connector
The Telco connector allows faxes to be sent directly from end user desktops. By implementing Fax over IP (software based solution), HP CR can be implemented as a full enterprise fax server.
After installation, the Telco connector requires the additional installation of modem drivers licensed to run the SR-140 modem software support.
The following procedure provides you with all the steps you need to add a local modem server or a remote modem server to the HP CR Server.
Note: If the modem server is local, the new connector wizard can detect the modem channels automatically. If the modem server is remote, you must detect the modem channels on the remote system.
- Start the Server Administrator.
- Expand the Server Administrator tree, and right-click Connectors.
- Select New > Telco Connector. The Server Address page opens. The Run on the Message Server option is selected by default.
- If the modem server is local, click Next. Alternately, if the modem server is remote, click Remote Server and enter the server name.
- Click Next. The system verifies that the product is installed on the system and opens the Display Name page.
- In the Name box, enter a descriptive name for the connector.
- Click Next. The Telco Device Detection page opens.
- Click Next. The Telco Default Settings page opens.
- In the CSI box, enter the identity of your company.
The CSI value you provide will be applied to all modem channels as the identity of your company for inbound and outbound faxes. Your company's identity is called the CSI (Called Subscriber Identification) for inbound faxes and the TSI (Transmitting Station Identifier) for outbound faxes. You can customize these values for individual modem channels after you complete the new connector wizard by modifying the properties of each modem channel.
Note: The modem strips any spaces or additional characters from the value you enter in the CSI text box. If you are using an inbound routing rule based on CSI or TSI, the criteria you enter for CSI or TSI must also be stripped of all spaces or additional characters, otherwise the rule will not work.
- In the Dial Prefix box, enter the dial prefix if your company uses one.
- Click Next. The Area Code page opens.
- In the Area Code box, enter the area code.
- Click Next. The Congratulations page opens.
- Click Finish.
The Telco connector is listed on the details pane.
T.37 Fax connector
The T.37 Fax connector is configured to deliver email to a fax server or fax service that accepts T.37 SMTP mail.
