The information below is a general guideline. Senders should review field requirements with Deutsche Post, as the mailing contract may specify contents for these fields. Additional information is available at DV FREIMACHUNG Downloads.

DV Absender: The sender details. This is the return address, on one line. PO Box addresses or dedicated customer postal codes, for example, 80324 München, meet this requirement.

DV DMC: The data matrix code, or barcode.

DV Entgelt: The postage amount. For items charged at per kilo rates, this is the net item charge plus the net list price for additional services, if applicable.

DV Frankier-ID: The franking ID is unique for every mail item. It consists of a subscription number (2 digits), the customer number of the sender (7 digits without any check digit), the item ID (10 digits, comprising a billing number and a consecutive item number), and a check digit (1 digit), in hexadecimal form.

DV Infozeile 1: The first information line is optional and available for senders to use for their information, or the sender's contract may require information here. Content must be between asterisks (*), and asterisks can be used as field separators.

DV Infozeile 2: The second information line is optional and available for senders to use for their information, or the sender's contract may require information here. Content must be between asterisks (*), and asterisks can be used as field separators.

DV Infozeile 3: The third information line is optional and available for senders to use for their information, or the sender's contract may require information here. If the mailing address is five lines, this third information line is not available.

Printregel: This field is for the Print Line, also known as the Sorting Line. It is used when mail consignments are sorted. Sorting is required for shipments of more than 2,500 items, and recommended for smaller shipments. The line consists of numbers, upper case letters, and hashtags, without spaces. The line is unique to every mail item and provides information about the consignment and the item's place in the consignment. The Print Line begins with the Coding Line, which provides a code for each address and handover location. There are no spaces in the Print Line.
