Are there various types of PlanetPress Design documents?
PlanetPress Workflow accept documents created in PlanetPress Design 4 up to the current version.
When sending a document to a PlanetPress Workflow from the Design tool, the version of the remote PlanetPress Workflow is used to determine in which format the document will be sent. If the remote Workflow version is 7.0.x, a PTK is sent; if the version is 7.1.0 or higher, a PTZ is sent.
Sending a PTK File (PlanetPress Workflow up to version 7.0.x)
In PlanetPress Design, when you install a document in a PlanetPress Workflow up to version 7.0.x, your PlanetPress Workflow receives the document as a PlanetPress Talk (PTK) file and saves it in its Documents folder. The PTK file contains all the information your PlanetPress Workflow requires to generate the PostScript code for any output (printer, PlanetPress, or PlanetPress Fax).
Sending a PTZ File (PlanetPress Workflow version 7.1.0 and up)
A PlanetPress Document Package, or PTZ, is a file format consisting of a ZIP file, which contains all the document's data and resources. With a PTZ, resources are extracted and uncompressed only once when your PlanetPress Workflow receives the file. All the resource files are stored in a sub-folder from where they are used as needed by the PressTalk Interpreter, and a smaller PTK file, containing only the actual document definition, links to the resources and PPD, is placed in the Documents folder.
Updating Documents With PlanetPress Workflow
To make changes to a PlanetPress Design document already sent to a PlanetPress Workflow, you must use PlanetPress Design and the source .ppX file. Re-installing the document in your PlanetPress Workflow replaces the PTK file. If you selected the option Automatically update, your PlanetPress Workflow automatically updates the printer-resident copy of the document the next time it executes a Printer Queue Output task using this document (see View Document Properties).
Since printer-resident documents are only used for one type of output, they are stored by PlanetPress Design on the printer’s hard disk or in its flash memory in PostScript (PS) format.
Documents Folder in PlanetPress Workflow Configuration Program
Documents available in your configuration appear in the Documents category of your PlanetPress Workflow's Configuration Components Pane, and are recognizable by their icons and file name extensions. When the documents are sent as PTZ files, the Documents folder displays the PTK file extracted from the PTZ package.
Documents that appear in red in the Configuration Components's Documents area are no longer available. They may no longer exist in the Documents folder, or they may exist under new names.
Bear in mind that the PlanetPress Suite configuration files (*.pwX, where X is the version number of the software used to create it) do not include documents, when you transfer PlanetPress Suite configurations between computers. You must therefore move the documents manually. You may consider using the Import Documents option, if both computers are accessible through your network.
