Customizing the Top Line Guidelines

You can create a unique top line for each Telco connector in your messaging environment.

Tip: After you customize the contents of the top line, consider whether you need to modify the width of the top line.

Follow these syntax rules when building the top line format.

  • Use a caret (^) to denote the beginning and end of each top line variable in the top line data string. For example: ^DATE^

  • Use a caret (^) to denote the beginning and end of each cover page variable in the top line data string. Cover page variables like %RECIP_NAME% should be entered as ^RECIP_NAME^ when they are used in the top line data string.

  • Use a plus sign (+) to denote a fixed space in the top line data string. A fixed space occupies the width of one character. Use consecutive plus signs to create larger spaces. For example, if you want to display the date and time with exactly one character space separating them, then you would use ^DATE^+^TIME^ in your top line data string.

  • Enter a space using the spacebar in the top line data string to create a space that is adjusted automatically based on the width of the top line. For example, if you want to display the date and time with adjusted spacing between them, you would use ^DATE^ ^TIME^ in your top line data string.

  • Enter additional text that you want to appear as static information in the top line. For example, if you want to label the recipient name in the top line, you might use To: ^RECIP_NAME^ in your top line data string.
