Using Redaction

After Administrators have set up redaction, WebApps Security Station (SS) or Content Review (CR)  users have the ability to redact and/or remove preselected redacted content in a document for legal and security purposes.

Note: SS and CR users are not removing physical content from a document. They  are determining whether to redact (obscure) or remove the redaction flag from preselected content.

Redaction types

  • Allow redaction – review preselected redacted content. SS and CR users can choose to redact or remove the redaction. Click to redact is the default.

  • Redact – review auto-redacted (obscured) content areas. SS and CR users cannot choose to remove redaction.

  • Suggest redaction – review preselected redacted content. SS and CR users  can choose to remove or redact content. Click to remove is the default.

More about redaction

  • Redactions are automatically saved and do not require a manual save.

  • Selecting or removing redactions for all preselected content is not required. Identify exceptions and click to redact or remove.

  • Documents that are approved or rejected are processed with manual, automatic, and/or preselected redactions. Documents cannot be retrieved to modify the redactions after they have been submitted.

  • The redaction process may take awhile. The following message appears: “Options being applied. Please wait.”

Redacting or removing redacted content

SS and CR users will use the following tools and actions to redact, select  or remove redacted content.

  • Use the Redact button on the WebApps tool bar to manually draw and add redaction boxes to specific areas of a document.

Note: Redaction boxes cannot span across multiple pages. More than one  redaction box must be used to select content that begins on one page and ends on another.

    • Press and drag any of the sizing handles to resize the redaction boxes, if necessary.

    • Press and drag the redaction box to move it to another area of the document, if necessary.

    • Use the x icon to delete the manually redacted boxes and start over, if necessary.

  • Click to redact or Click to remove to either redact or remove preselected redacted content in a document.
