Adding Filter and Split Stages

Within the automation program builder, use the filter and split stages to create branches in your automation journey.

The filter stage will divide contacts arriving at the stage based on whether they match the criteria of one of your saved filters.

The split stage will divide contacts arriving at the stage based on percentage values, or weightings, assigned to each branch. The weighting determines the likelihood that a contact takes that branch.

Adding a filter stage

Filter stages allow you to split your contacts based on filter criteria, allowing you to send follow-up email campaigns related to a contact's data.

  1. Drag the filter stage from the menu bar to the canvas.

  2. Select the stage on the canvas to open the editor pane.

  3. In the editor pane, press the select filter button to open a popup window with a list of available filters.

  4. Select a filter and press the okay button to add it to your automation program.

  5. The filter will create two branches, one for those who meet the filter criteria and one for those who do not. Each branch will need a follow-up action.

Drag and drop additional stages onto the canvas to close each branch, e.g. add a launch stage, add a delay stage, add a list stage, add a program stage, add a split stage.

  6. Press the save draft button to save without publishing your automation program.

  7. When you are ready to publish your program, press the publish program button.

Adding a split stage

Split stages allow you to split your contacts by a percentage value, allowing you to send groups of contacts along different automation branches, e.g. to test different variations of the same program simultaneously.

  1. Drag the split stage from the menu bar to the canvas.

  2. Select the stage on the canvas to open the editor pane.

A split stage has two branches with an equal (50/50) weighting by default.

  3. In the editor pane, press the edit weights button to enable textboxes and edit the weighting.

Tip: you can use the plus and minus buttons to edit the weighting or type in a weighting.
Note: the stage will produce an error message if the total is not 100% of your audience.
  4. Press the add branch button to add additional branches to your split stage.

Added branches have a weighting of 0% by default.

Tip: use the edit function to change the branch name and make it more understandable at first glance.
  5. Each branch will need a follow-up action. Drag and drop additional stages onto the canvas to close each branch, e.g. add a launch stage, add a delay stage, add a list stage, add a program stage, add a filter stage.

  6. Press the save draft button to save without publishing your automation program.

  7. When you are ready to publish your program, press the publish program button.
