Tutorial: Preference Centre

Preference centre are prefilled forms that allow you to update your contacts' mailing information and collect any additional data you may want for further marketing opportunities.

This information is important, to ensure your contacts continue to receive the communications they want to while also giving you the opportunity to gain further subscriptions to other mailing lists.

This guide will take you through the steps for a basic Preference Centre form, to add contacts to new mailing lists.

Step 1: Initial Setup

Follow the Initial Form Setup documentation, to provide the basic details for your form.

Step 2: Basic Information

Add text boxes, for data such as contact names to prefill, and an email element to ensure it is still the best method of communication.

This data can prefill, based on the data you already have—letting contacts know the information they have provided.

Step 3: List of Communication Options

Add list checkboxes, and the mailing lists you want to offer your contacts on the form.

When these are checked the contact will automatically be added to the associated list after submitting the form.

Step 4: Additional Data and Ordering

You may want to capture more data from your contact, in which case add further elements to your form.

Drag your elements to re-order them, which will be the order that they are rendered in the form.

Step 5: Remove from Unsub Lists

To ensure a contact is added to the desired list you need to remove them from a list's associated unsub list at the Element Level on each List Checkbox. This is in case they have unsubscribed from the communication before.

You will be asked for condition settings when applying the 'Remove from Unsub List' actions. Make sure Checked is the chosen option—this means that if a 'List Checkbox' created in Step 3 is selected, the platform will first attempt to remove the contact from the Unsub.

Tip: Remember, element level actions occur before form level actions.

Step 6: Send Campaign Element Actions

You may also want to send welcome campaigns to users, introducing them to the mailing lists they have joined.

To do this, add Send Campaign actions at Form Level too.

Step 7: Review Form and Action Order

When you have finished creating your form, check to make sure all your elements are in the right order and that your actions do not conflict.

After following these instructions a contact who checks one of your List Checkboxes will:

  • Be removed from an unsub list (if not on unsub list, no action is taken)
  • Sent a welcome campaign
  • Added to the associated list

Step 8: Using your Form

Now your preference centre is complete, see the Using pre-filled forms documentation for how to apply the form in your campaigns.
