What is BA Insight

The Upland BA Insight platform provides an integrated framework for connecting, enriching, and delivering enterprise information through intelligent search experiences. It extracts, collects, and indexes data from multiple systems, enhances that data with metadata and AI-driven enrichment, and makes it searchable through customizable user interfaces. By combining these capabilities, Upland BA Insight helps organizations turn disconnected content sources into a single, discoverable knowledge ecosystem.

BA Insight’s architecture is modular, allowing organizations to deploy only the components they need. The core platform integrates seamlessly with leading enterprise search engines such as Elasticsearch, Azure AI Search, and OpenSearch, while offering specialized modules that handle data ingestion, metadata enhancement, and user experience delivery.

• Search experience: Delivers intuitive, customizable search interfaces through SmartHub or custom applications, allowing your users to query the indexed content.

• Content Previews: Hit highlighted previews for search result content, allowing users to quickly find relevant text passages.

BA Insight components

BA Insight is comprised of 5 sub-products, offering different functionality depending on what you have installed and configured in your environment.

Connectors	Yes	BA Insight connectors provide the integration layer between enterprise content sources and the BA Insight platform’s indexing and enrichment services. Each connector enables secure, read-only access to a specific system such as SharePoint, Salesforce, or ServiceNow, so its data can be indexed, enriched, and made searchable. With over 90 pre-built connectors available, the platform supports a broad range of cloud and on-premises repositories. Each connector is individually downloaded and deployed within the BA Insight ecosystem, allowing organizations to install only the integrations they need. At least one connector is required in every BA Insight environment to supply the content that powers the search index and user experience.
Connectivity Hub	Yes	Connectivity Hub is the central management and deployment framework for BA Insight connectors. It provides the infrastructure that allows connectors to communicate with target systems, manage authentication, and transfer content securely to the indexing pipeline. Through Connectivity Hub, administrators can install, configure, and monitor each connector individually, ensuring stable and efficient data ingestion across diverse content sources. Connectivity Hub supports over 90 available connectors, each downloaded and deployed independently to align with the organization’s data landscape. As the backbone of the BA Insight integration layer, Connectivity Hub ensures that connected systems deliver consistent, normalized content to the search index for enrichment and discovery.
AutoClassifier	No	AutoClassifier is the AI-driven content enrichment engine within the BA Insight platform. It automatically analyzes documents and other content to apply metadata, taxonomy tags, and classification labels, improving the accuracy and relevance of search results. AutoClassifier integrates directly with Conductivity Hub indexed content, ensuring that content ingested from connectors is enriched before being sent to the search engine. It leverages configurable models and rules to adapt to organizational taxonomies, and can process both standard documents and chunked content for more granular indexing. By automating content classification, AutoClassifier reduces manual tagging efforts and enhances discoverability across large and diverse datasets.
SmartHub	No	SmartHub is the configurable user interface layer of the BA Insight platform, delivering enterprise search and discovery experiences across connected content sources. It provides flexible tools for designing search pages, query experiences, and result displays, allowing organizations to tailor the user experience to their business needs. SmartHub integrates with the BA Insight indexing pipeline, consuming enriched and classified content from AutoClassifier and Connectivity Hub to present relevant search results. It also supports conversational search integration, enabling natural language queries and AI-driven responses that enhance how users interact with content. Advanced features such as faceted navigation, filtering, and relevance tuning ensure that users can quickly find the information they need. By centralizing search experience management, SmartHub enables consistent, scalable, and customizable search interfaces across the organization.
Smart Previews	No	Smart Previews enhances the BA Insight search experience by providing users with rich, interactive previews of content directly within search results. It allows users to quickly scan document excerpts, highlight key terms, and interact with content without navigating away from the search interface. Smart Previews relies on SmartHub being installed in the BA Insight ecosystem, as it integrates directly with the SmartHub interface to render previews and maintain a seamless user experience. By leveraging the enriched and classified content produced by AutoClassifier and Connectivity Hub, Smart Previews ensures that previews are relevant, context-aware, and aligned with the organization’s metadata and taxonomy structures. This feature improves productivity and discovery by enabling users to access critical information faster while keeping the search workflow intuitive and efficient.
