Apply Program Policy Templates to Programs
Program Policies determine how users are allowed to interact with specific Eclipse PPM Programs. They are used to give users access to specific Program components so they can carry out and record their Program-related work. Members of these policies are given permissions to interact with components of a specific Program; these policies cannot be used to provide users with any permissions outside of the Program. For example, a user on a Program Policy will not receive any permissions on Projects that belong to the Program.
Program Policy Templates are created by administrators the exact same way Program Policies are created on individual Programs; permissions are selected and users are added as members. Once a Program Policy Template is complete, it can be applied to Programs in order prevent users from having to create the same Program Policy over and over for each Program.
Once a Program Policy Template is applied to a Program, it immediately becomes a Program Policy on that Program. There are two ways to apply a Program Policy Template to Programs:
-
Attach it to a Program Template: Administrators can add a Program Policy Template to the Security page of a Program Template. This way, every new Program created from the Program Template will automatically feature the corresponding Program Policy upon creation.
Note: This will only apply the Program Policy to any future Programs created using the Program Template. It will not apply the policy to any preexisting Programs that were already created from the Program Template.
This method should be used to add Program Policies to future Programs that will share the same (or similar) Security settings.
-
Apply it at the Program level: Users responsible for Program Security have the option to add Program Policy Templates directly to their own Programs. This method should be used whenever Program Managers or Program Security teams need to satisfy their unique Program needs.
Tip: Administrators should openly communicate the available Program Policy Templates to Project Managers to save them from having to constantly create their own Program Policies directly on Programs.
Apply Program Policy Templates to Program Templates
Administrators can apply Program Policy Templates directly to Program Templates in Eclipse PPM. When this occurs, any new Programs created using the Program Template will automatically receive all of the template's Program Policies upon creation.
Note: Program Policies will not be retroactively added to any Programs that were created from the Program Template before the Program Policy Template was attached to it. The policy will only be applied to new Programs created from the Program Template.
Note: There is no way to apply Program Policy Template updates to Program Policies on Program Templates. This means that administrators will need to maintain their Program Templates by updating Project Policies manually whenever they need to receive changes.
To apply a Program Policy Template to a Program Template:
Before You Start: Users require the "Create Program Templates - Allow" from an Application Policy to edit Program Templates that they have created themselves. They will require the "Manage Program Templates - Allow" permission from an Application Policy to edit any other Program Templates (both shared and not shared) in Eclipse PPM.
-
Select the Administration icon from the Icon Bar.
-
Select Program from the "Templates" menu.
-
Select the name of the Program Template you would like to apply the Program Policy Template to.
Tip: Use the column headers to sort/filter Program Templates.
-
Open the Template Menu in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
-
Select Security from the "Views" menu.
-
Open the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
-
Select the name of the Program Policy Template you would like to apply to the Program Template.
-
(Optional) Edit the permissions and members of the Program Policy to customize it for the Program Template.
Note: See Edit / Delete a Program Policy for more information about editing Program Policies.
-
Select the Save button.
After selecting Save, the Program Policy Template will be added to the Program Template as a Program Policy. Whenever a new Program is created using the Program Template, the Program Policy will automatically be applied to it.
Note: Administrators will have to edit a Program Template manually in order to edit Program Policies on Program Templates.
Apply a Program Policy Template to a single Program
Users can apply an existing Program Policy Template to a Program at any time. This will result in a new Program Policy on the Program's Security page. The permissions and members of this new Program Policy will match the permissions and members of the Program Policy Template at the time it is applied to the Program. Once the policy is applied, users can customize it to match their specific Program needs.
Tip: Administrators should openly communicate the available Program Policy Templates to Program managers to save them from having to constantly create their own Program Policies directly on Programs.
To apply a Program Policy Template to a single Program:
Before You Start: Users require the "Manage Program Policies - Allow" permission on at least one of a Program's Policies to apply a Program Policy Template to it.
-
Navigate to the Program.
-
Open the Program Menu in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
-
Select Security from the "Views" menu.
-
Open the drop-down menu next to the New Policy button.
-
Select the name of the Program Policy Template you would like to apply to the Program.
-
(Optional) Edit the permissions and members of the Program Policy to customize it for the Program Template.
Note: See Edit / Delete a Program Policy for more information about editing Program Policies.
-
Select the Save button.
After selecting Save, the Program Policy Template will be added to the Program as a Program Policy. It can be directly edited on the Program at any time.
