License OL Remote Print

Two types of licensing are available for OLRP: click-based and user-based. These license types are mutually exclusive: an OLRP server either manages users or clicks, but not both. However, it is possible to purchase two different licenses and install them each on their own OLRP server.

For both types, license verification requires the server to have access to an external cloud-based licensing server. This may require IT to open outgoing requests to specific ports and addresses.

Click-based licensing

Click-based licenses have no restriction on how many concurrent users can send jobs to the OLRP server. The server receives the jobs, determines how many pages they contain, and deducts that number of pages from the number of clicks remaining in your pool. Once the pool is depleted, jobs are refused by the server. New click-based licenses can and should be purchased before the pool is depleted. Newly purchased clicks are added to any clicks remaining in the pool.

Note: If the OLRP server is unable to access the licensing server, incoming jobs are pooled locally until the connection to the licensing server is restored. As a result, the total number of clicks displayed in the management UI may sometimes be lower than used: some clicks may not yet have been consumed on the licensing server. The synchronization of all local pools with the licensing server occurs every few minutes.

User-based licensing

User-based licenses have no restrictions on the number of pages that are sent to the OLRP server. Instead, user-based licenses are time-based. The server keeps track of the user that sent each job and adds that information to the list, so that you can View users. Once the number of active users has reached the license limit, any new user sending jobs to the server will cause the oldest user to be deleted from the list (the oldest user is the user whose last job is the farthest in the past). No user who has sent jobs in the last 30 days is ever removed. Therefore, if the maximum permitted number of users have sent jobs over the last 30 days, jobs from new users are refused.

Note: User information contains no identifiable personal information, apart from the user name used. In addition, user information is never sent to the licensing server; it remains stored locally.

Multiple user licenses can be purchased, in which case the total number of users is the sum of all users from all active licenses.

Note: User-based licenses always expire, so the total number of allowed users is the sum of all users whose license has not expired yet.

Maintenance Plan - OL Care

OL Remote Print is a standalone product and therefore requires its own OL Care subscription to allow customer access to support and updates. OL Care is not available for click-based licensing.
