Request Approval for an Idea

In PowerSteering, an Idea is a noteworthy suggestion that an organization should consider pursuing. Ideas provide an easy way to capture and review potential initiatives before committing any time and resources to them. Ideas can be submitted for review and subsequently be approved and converted into Projects (or any type of work item) at any time.

Note: "Idea" is a Replaceable Term in PowerSteering. Your organization may use a different term.

Once an Idea has been created, a user can submit it for approval. This will allow any of the designated approvers to review the Idea and determine whether to approve or reject it. If approved, the Idea can be converted into a Project (or whichever work item it has been configured to become).

Note: Idea Hoppers can be configured to automatically request approval as soon as the Idea is created. If this is the case, the following procedure will not be necesarry.

Tip: To be notified when an Idea is requested for approval, users must subscribe to the "Idea Approval Request" Alert Subscription. Administrators should consider using Role-based Alert Subscriptions to add this alert to Roles designated for approving Ideas.

To request approval for an Idea:

Before You Start: Users require the "Request Approval of Idea" Project Tasks permission on an Idea in order to request approval for it.

  1. Navigate to the Idea.

  2. Select Request Review in the top right-hand corner of the Idea's Summary page.

After selecting Request Review, the Idea will be ready for approval or rejection. A user with the "Approve / Reject Idea" Project Tasks permission on the Idea will need to approve it before it can be converted into a Project.
