Data Extract Overview

Data Extract is a powerful tool that allows users to create Data Extract Jobs according to specific project data requirements and then set up scheduled intervals for each job to run. The data extract job will start at the scheduled time, extract the data, and transmit the data extract file(s) to a remote Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) location.

Note: SFTP is a secure and encrypted protocol used for transferring files between computers over a network. SFTP is designed to provide a secure alternative to other file transfer protocols, such as FTP (File Transfer Protocol), which transmit data in an unencrypted form.

SFTP encrypts both the data being transmitted and the commands used to perform file transfers. It also uses authentication mechanisms to verify the identities of users and servers involved in the file transfer process, which ensures that sensitive information is protected from unauthorized access or interception.

PowerSteering administrators can set up SFTP remote sites. Reach out to your PowerSteering representative if this is something you might need guidance with.

Note: If the Data Extract page is not accessible, you may not have the "Create and edit Data Extract Jobs" Context permission. If you have this permission and the Data Extract page is still not accessible, Data Extract might not be enabled for your site. Speak to your PowerSteering representative for more information.

The creator of the Data Extract Job will receive a notification email:

  • Once the first file is transmitted successfully to the extract location
  • If the data extract process experienced error(s)
  • If the file transmission process experienced error(s)

The Data Extract Job Summary will provide useful information to help document any issues the job may have encountered.

If the file transmission is interrupted due to an unavailable extract location, the user can run the Data Extract Job again after the extract location becomes available. This will start the job at the file that was interrupted during the previous transmission. Users also have an option to restart the Data Extract from the beginning.

Data Extracts can be created in two ways:
