Local and Remote Modem Server

Telco connectors have different uses and settings based on the type of modem server you are using. See additional details below.

Local modem server

Using a local modem server Telco connector

A single Telco connector can manage all the fax board channels in your messaging environment, including channels on a local modem server and remote modem servers.

Note: If you ran the server configuration wizard after installing the Upland AccuRoute fax server, the installation program installs a Telco connector on the server. However, if you are installing an Upland AccuRoute server, the installation program does not install the Telco connector. Contact your sales representative to obtain Telco connectors, if necessary.

To add a Telco connector for a local modem server, see Adding a Telco connector. When you follow the procedure, one or more fax boards are located on the server.

After you finish adding the Telco connector for a local modem server, you can configure it to manage fax boards on remote modem servers. For instructions, see Detecting remote modem server channels.

Using multiple Telco connectors with one fax board/modem

You can configure multiple Telco connectors to manage the channels on the same fax board. Since a single channel in a fax board can only be managed by a single Telco connector, you must configure each Telco connector with the channel it should manage. For instructions on channels and how to configure them, see About Channels.

If you have multiple fax boards in the same system and they are all managed by the modem server on that system, and if you have multiple Telco connector that you want to use, you must you must configure each Telco connector with the channel it should manage.

Note: Important! If the Telco connectors are located in different servers but share the channels (for example, Channel 0 is detected in the remote server and channel 1 is detected in the local server of the same fax board), the shared folders must be on the same computer, and both Telco connectors must point to the same Telco share.

Remote modem server

The modem server that is installed on a remote system is a different server than the Upland AccuRouteserver. The modem server enables the server to communicate with fax boards/modems.

Setting up a remote modem server

To set up a remote modem server ensure that when the server was installed, all features for which you have a license were installed, including the modem server. The remote modem server can use the modem server license on the server as long as no fax boards are set up on the server. If any fax boards are installed on the server system, you will need an additional license for a Telco connector.

Note: Important! Before you begin setting up the modem server on the remote system, make sure that the fax boards are installed, configured, and tested on the remote system.

The process of setting up a remote modem server consists of the following steps.
