Modem Server Telco Connector Benefits

You can add multiple Telco connectors to theUpland AccuRoute Server. These connectors enable you to control which Modem Servers—local or remote—deliver outbound faxes thus reducing faxing costs and providing failover support for Telco connectors if one fails.

A single Telco connector can manage all the fax board channels in your messaging environment, including channels on a local Modem Server and Remote Modem Servers. Each Telco connector can use only one telco share directory. This means that if you have only one Telco connector, any modem server—local or remote—might attempt to deliver the faxes. This might be acceptable if your company has one office, but if your company has more than one location and these locations are located throughout the country, or even in different countries, you will likely want to add another Telco connector.

Reducing faxing costs

You might want to add a second Telco connector to reduce the outbound faxing costs at your location.

For example, suppose your company has offices in Massachusetts and California. You are located in Massachusetts, and so you have created a local Modem Server in Massachusetts and a Remote Modem Server in California. With only one Telco connector, either of the Modem Servers can deliver outbound faxes from the Telco connector. This can get costly if the modem server in Massachusetts delivers faxes to California. By adding a second Telco connector, you can create special dialing rules so that the remote Modem Server in California delivers all outbound faxes destined for California. This can reduce faxing costs significantly.

Furthermore, you can create dialing rules on the server that route all outbound faxes from Massachusetts to the western part of the United States through the second Telco connector which delivers faxes through the Remote Modem Server in California.

Providing failover support

Having a second Telco connector is a method of providing failover support for outbound faxes. You can create routing rules that route outbound faxes to one Telco connector, but if the Telco connector fails, then the server routes them through another Telco connector.

Efficiency

If your company generates a large number of outbound faxes, having more than one Telco connector allows the server to route faxes to the Telco connector that has Modem Servers closest to the fax destination. Not only can this save your company money, but this strategy can balance the load of outbound faxes among multiple Telco connectors.

Note: When you install the server, the installation program installs a Telco connector on the server.
