Modifying Rule Properties
A rule consists of the following properties and options that you can use to modify and enhance its performance. You can select a rule in any of the folders to modify its properties.
General Properties
You can use General properties to:
-
Rename the rule by using the Name box.
-
Change the rule location to a different folder by using the RuleSet drop-down list
-
Change the priority of the rule in a folder by using the Order box.
By default, rules are prioritized in increments of ten. You can change the increments to any value you want. For example, let’s say you have a current rule with an Order value of 30. You want the new rule you are working on to be executed before the rule with an Order value of 30. You assign the new rule an Order value of 29.
Note: The leading zeroes are not required when you assign new Order values to your rules.
You can use the Criteria Expression box to update the rule criteria by using the AND/OR operators and Insert button.
-
Use the Insert button to add additional system or user-defined properties.
You can use Deliver > Actions properties to:
-
Select a different connector by using the Connector drop-down list.
-
Select a different format by using the Format drop-down list.
-
Allow a sender to override the format of a document to a different format.
Note: If this option is enabled,

Select when you want to include a template, for example, a fax cover page template by using any of the following Include Template options.
-
Never
-
Always (Default)
-
Use Sender Settings (Allows sender to choose whether or not to use a template.)

-
Select whether you want to include document thumbnails with notifications when failures occur by using any of the following Include Document(s) options.
-
Never

Override Destination
-
Specify the override destination in the box.
-
-
Specify the following Delivery Options
The following Delivery > Merging and Splitting options for attachments can be set for your rule(s).
-
Override document processing
-
Split multi-page attachments into page groupings
-
Specify the maximum page count of the split attachment by using the No longer than… box.
-
Specify the maximum file size of the attachment to minimize document processing bottlenecks by using the No larger than… box.
-
Merge all attachments before splitting as directed
-
Specify a custom Filename Template you have created, if any, in the box instead of the default. Variables in the template are used to identify and label multi-page attachments.
-
Job Properties
You can modify a rule’s job properties by selecting an action on the Actions tree and using the Job Properties tab.
You can use Job Properties to:
-
Modify existing job properties by selecting any in the Job Property table and using the Properties button.
-
Add more system or user-defined job properties by using the Add button.
-
Remove job properties that are no longer applicable by using the Remove button.
-
Import DMS Profile Export properties to create DMS related rules for reuse by using the Import button.
On Failure
You can determine how you want the server to manage actions that fail by using the On Failure tab.
You can use On Failure to:
-
Go to a different action that you have created by using the If the action fails drop-down list. The default is Complete Workflow.
-
Redispatch can be used to re-dispatch messages, for example, if Action A destination fails then re-dispatch to Action B destination.
-
Use Continue to allow messages to go to the In History > General Failure folder or other destination for review and further action.
