Ideas Overview
In PowerSteering, an Idea is a noteworthy suggestion that an organization should consider pursuing. Ideas provide an easy way to capture and review potential initiatives before committing any time and resources to them. Ideas can be submitted for review and subsequently be approved and converted into Projects (or any type of work item) at any time.
Ideas are designated into different categories upon creation. Idea categories are created by PowerSteering administrators in the form of Idea Hoppers, which act as templates for new Ideas. Administrators create and maintain Idea Hoppers so Idea creators can choose which type of Idea they would like to create.
Note: "Idea" is a Replaceable Term in PowerSteering. Your organization may use a different label to represent ideas on your site.
Note: In order for work items to be PowerSteering Ideas, their Object Types must have the "Idea" checkbox selected by a PowerSteering administrator.
See Update the Configuration of an Object Type for more information.
Example: Laura is a PowerSteering administrator. At her company, she knows that Project Managers must come up with their own ideas for digitization-related Projects and run them by a member of the executive team for approval before they become greenlit. To integrate this procedure into PowerSteering, she decides to use PowerSteering Ideas.
She creates an Idea Hopper called "Ideas for Digitization". In the "Type" field, she makes sure to select an "Idea" Object Type that is configured to become a "Project" after approval.
Now, Project Managers can use the "Ideas for Digitization" Idea Hopper to create new Ideas about digitization. Members of the executive team can review these Ideas and decide to approve them or reject them. If approved, a Project Manager can select the Convert to Project button and immediately get to work on the new Project.
