Using the Audience Designer

Use the designer tab to drag analysis elements onto a grid and connect them together to create your audience.

Audience analysis elements

Located to the left side of the canvas, the elements menu provides the tools to select, combine, and manipulate your data.

Elements are divided into two categories: Input and Operation.

Input elements

Input elements control what data is used to build your audience selection.

  • Query - pull data from your database into an audience selection.

  • Label - select individuals based on their labeling history.

Input elements are shown as a green node on the canvas for easy identification.

Operation elements

Operation elements are what you use to combine, exclude or manipulate the data in an audience output.

  • AND - select contacts that match all of the criteria defined in multiple input nodes.

  • OR - select contacts that match any of the criteria defined in multiple input nodes.

  • NOT - select contacts that are not captured by your input node.

Operation elements are shown as an amber node on the canvas for easy identification.

Building an audience

The design space will include a results node by default.

To build an audience using the designer tab:

  1. Drag an input element from the elements menu onto the canvas.

  2. Define the input criteria.

    • For a query node, drag a data set onto the node or enter syntax in the properties pane.

    • For a label node, select a tag in the properties pane.

  3. Continue to add and define input elements as required, e.g. add a second query to perform an AND analysis.

  4. Drag an operation element onto the canvas between your queries and the results node.

Tip: you can make complex analyses using multiple inputs and operations.

  5. Connect your input nodes to your operation node.

  6. Connect your operation node to your results node.

  7. In the function menu, select the Refresh button to update your nodes and final audience count.

  8. When you are happy with your audience selection, you can save and export your audience.
