Quick start guide

New to FileBound Connect? Here are some important things to know to get you started! Follow the links provided in this guide for more in-depth documentation on these features.

Getting started

When you open the Connect desktop application, you will see the sign in screen. See Sign in to Connect for more information. Before signing in for the first time, you will need to configure Connect to work with your FileBound site. See Configuration for more information.

Once you are signed in, you can navigate within projects on your FileBound site.

You will use the Menu Bar and Toolbar at the top of the application to access different Connect features. Toolbar options are determined by the permissions a System Administrator has given you in FileBound. See Navigate the interface for more information.

Searching for and adding content

Two of the most common things you will do in FileBound Connect are search within and add content to FileBound projects. There are two types of searches available in Connect:

  • Basic Search: Allows you to perform a basic search using index field values to locate files within a project.
  • Advanced Search: Allows you to search for files within FileBound using various criteria.

Documents can be added to FileBound files via Connect by scanning or importing. See Scan documents and Import documents for more information.

Searching

Search is simple and primary function that you can perform in FileBound. Search allows you to retrieve and view content and data quickly. You can use the Project search to search for files within a specific project or use the Global search to search across all projects.

Viewing documents

Viewers allow you to view and modify documents that are stored within a file. You can set a default viewer in your User Preferences. There are two different types of viewers available in FileBound:

  • Web Viewer: The Web Viewer opens in a new tab within your browser and provides much of the same functionally as the Windows Viewer in an easy to use, updated interface. Some new functionality, such as the ability to share documents externally and edit documents in Microsoft® Office 365®, is only available in the Web Viewer. The File and Document Journals are also only available in the Web Viewer.

  • Windows Viewer: The Windows Viewer needs to be installed separately on your computer and is not compatible with Mac.
