Task Name Preferences

Task Name Preferences offers administrators the freedom to customize how Task Names are created. Users can organize and identify Tasks more efficiently within the Work Plans and their Timesheet. This results in better task/resource management and a reduced likelihood of errors or confusion.

The articles details how to configure the Task Name Preferences.

  1. From the Icon Bar click Setup .
  2. From the Navigation Menu click Organization.
  3. From the menu click System.
  4. From the System page click the System Setup button to access the System Setup page.
  5. In the Task Preferences section, the style determines the How Task Names are auto-generated.
  6. Choose one of the following options from the Default Task Name selection box:
    1. Client Name, Project Code and Work Type
    2. Client Name, Work Type and Project Code
    3. Project Code and Work Type

      Note: Project Code and Work Type is selected by default.

    4. Work Type and Project Code
  7. In the Name separator box, enter the characters linking the item names. Even though there are tasks that exist prior to this preference being set up, the new settings for the task only apply to tasks that are newly created. Existing tasks are not edited.

    Note: The hyphen (-) is used as the default name separator by the application.

  8. Click Save

    Note: The changes you have made will not be visible until your next login. This also applies to other users.

Use Cases and Examples

Client Name, Project Code and Work Type

Let's assume that we chose Client Name, Project Code and Work Type and chose to accept the default hyphen '-' as the separator.

When creating a new Task for:

Client Name: ACME Corporation

Project Code: Apollo

Work Type: Bookkeeping

Then the generated Task Name will be: ACME Corporation-Apollo-Bookkeeping

Client Name: ACME Corporation

Project Code: Apollo

Work Type: Bookkeeping
