Suspend a Work Type
Suspending a Work Type helps control how it is used across your system without permanently deleting it. Once suspended, the Work Type becomes unavailable for selection in new records, and any Tasks associated with it are restricted in behavior.
Example: Suspended Work Types are visually highlighted in red, hidden from most selection lists, and excluded when copying Projects. However, they remain available for use in filters and reports, ensuring that historical data remains accessible.
This article details how to Suspend a Work Type.

Understanding the Impact of Suspending a Work Type
Suspending a Work Type affects how it behaves across the system and may limit its availability in key operations. The following outlines what to expect when a Work Type is suspended:
- A suspended Task can only be reactivated if its associated Work Type is also active.
- When copying a Project, Tasks associated to suspended Work Types are not copied. A message will inform you: Some Tasks were not created because their Work Types were suspended.
- Suspended Work Types are:
- Visually highlighted in red in the Work Types lists.
- Displayed in red and marked as non-selectable in "Browse for Item" lists when Show Suspended Work Types is enabled.
- Hidden from selection lists to prevent associations to new records.
- Still available in Filters and Reports for tracking historical or related data.
