Terminology
Before using FileBound, it will be helpful to familiarize yourself with some of the terms commonly used in FileBound:
Documents: FileBound allows you to work with a wide range of document types. Documents can be scanned or imported into FileBound. Documents are stored inside files.
Files: FileBound files are a searchable container for various types of related documents; not to be confused with a computer file.
Dividers: Dividers allow you to group documents stored within a file. Documents are organized into dividers.
Separators: Separators provide an additional level of grouping within a file. Dividers are placed within separators.
Projects: A FileBound project is the highest and broadest level of organization that can be created within FileBound. Projects contain files. If you are working with FileBound for the first time, you must create and configure a project first. Project examples include: Invoices, Employee Records, and Contracts.

Adding content
The most common way to add content to FileBound is via the Add Content page. There are three options available when adding content from this page:
- File Entry: Creates a new file in the selected project.
- Scan Documents: Allows you to scan documents and save them to a file.
- Upload Documents: Allows you to select the documents that will be added to the file. The documents can be indexed right away or held in the Indexing Queue for later indexing.
Searching
Search is simple and primary function that you can perform in FileBound. Search allows you to retrieve and view content and data quickly. You can use the Project search to search for files within a specific project or use the Global search to search across all projects.
Viewing documents
Viewers allow you to view and modify documents that are stored within a file. You can set a default viewer in your User Preferences. There are two different types of viewers available in FileBound:
-
Web Viewer: The Web Viewer opens in a new tab within your browser and provides much of the same functionally as the Windows Viewer in an easy to use, updated interface. Some new functionality, such as the ability to share documents externally and edit documents in Microsoft® Office 365®, is only available in the Web Viewer. The File and Document Journals are also only available in the Web Viewer.
- Windows Viewer: The Windows Viewer needs to be installed separately on your computer and is not compatible with Mac.
