Create a Task Budget From the Task Edit Page

You can define detailed Cost and Billing for Project, Task and Assignment Budgets.

This article details how to set up a Budget at the Task level.

  1. From the Icon Bar click Setup .
  2. From the Navigation Menu click Work to expand the corresponding menu.
  3. From the Work menu items, click Tasks.
  4. From the Tasks list that displays, click the Name of the task you wish to access.

    Tip: You may wish to narrow your Tasks list so that you retrieve just the right amount of information you need. To do so you can perform a search. Select either Name, Id, Project or Work Type from the available search criteria and then enter a corresponding value in the Search box. Click the search icon to narrow down the Tasks list.   5. Click the Budget button to access the Task Budget page.
  6. Click Create Budget to create a new one
    OR
    Generate rollup Budget to delete any existing task budgets and create a new budget from the rollup of its Assignment budgets. The budget details are a sum of all Assignment budgets regardless of budget dates. For further details refer to Generating a rollup budget at the Task level.
  7. Enter the budgeted amounts in the respective Time, Cost, Billable and Non-Billable item boxes under the Current column.
  8. Enter a Description.
  9. Click Options.
  10.  If required, select the appropriate option(s) to prevent users from exceeding:
    1. Total Time: When turned on, the user is prevented from entering time exceeding the Current Time Budget defined for a specified date range.
    2. Billable Time: When turned on, the user is prevented from entering time exceeding the Current Billable Time Budget defined for a specified date range.
    3. Non-Billable: When turned on, the user is prevented from entering time exceeding the Current Non-Billable Time Budget defined for a specified date range.
    4. Billable Time Amount: When turned on, the user is prevented from entering time exceeding the Current Billable Time Amount defined for a specified date range.
    5. Non-Billable Time Amount: When turned on, the user is prevented from entering time exceeding the Current Non-Billable Time Amount defined for a specified date range.

    Note: A default selection can be set at the Work System level for these options. For more details, refer to Preventing Users from Exceeding Budget.

  11. Click Save to apply your changes.

    Tip: The Options dialog box will close automatically upon saving, and you will return to the Project Budget.

  12. Changes made to the Budget are saved automatically. When finished, click the Back button to return to the previous page.
