Remove a UDF Tab from an Object

In PSA, User Defined Field (UDF) tabs are automatically created when UDFs are associated to an object, such as Project. If all UDFassociations are later removed, the system automatically hides the corresponding UDF tab from the user interface. This helps streamline the layout and ensures users only see relevant fields.

However, it’s important to consider the impact of deleting UDFs. Deleting an associated UDF field will permanently remove all historical data associated with that Field. If you need to retain the data but no longer want the field to appear or be editable, consider using Access Control settings to hide or lock the UDF instead. This approach preserves your data while keeping the interface clean.

Objects such as Project, User and Work Items support UDF-level Access Control, allowing administrators to manage visibility and editability without losing valuable historical information. For more information, refer to the documentation:

This article details how to remove a UDF tab from a PSA object by deleting associated UDFs. Understand the data loss risk and explore access control as a safer alternative for hiding or locking fields.

  1. From the Icon Bar click Setup .
  2. From the Navigation Menu select User Defined Fields to access the Associate User Defined Fields page.

Tip: The Menu will automatically hide (collapse or minimize), allowing for more space on the Associate User Defined Fields page. While the menu is minimized, click the blue Collapse/Expand arrow to turn it back on.

  3. Click the Associate to box to access the list and select Project from the list of available options.

Note: Users must have access rights to at least one of the modules, listed here, to have access to the Associate User Defined Fields page, otherwise the User Defined Fields menu option will not display.

  4. Select the Tab where the UDF(s) reside.
  5. Click the Delete button located against all associated UDFs.
  6. Upon the Delete confirmation dialog box displaying, clickYes to confirm the deletion or No to return to previous page.

Caution: Deleting a User Defined Field (UDF) association will permanently remove any data previously entered for that field.

  7. After all UDF associations are removed, go to the object and confirm that the UDF tab no longer appears in the interface.
